German defense force first mountain Infantry Division
The First Mountain Infantry Division was established in Garmisch Partenkirchen on April 9, 1938, based on the original Mountain Infantry Brigade. This brigade was a mountain army when the German armed forces were rebuilt in 1935. The mountain troops originated from the mountain troops of Germany, Italy and Austria Hungary during the First World War.
